Montgomery, AL – Democrats in the state legislature have their own plans to make Alabama's government more accountable. It would require state agencies to report to the Secretary of State when contracts are not bid. It also would give the Legislature's Contract Review Committee authority to hold a contract for 120 days instead of the current 45. Governor Bob Riley has said one of his primary goals for the session is to make government accountable. But Representative Ken Guin, the House Democratic Caucus leader, says Democrats wanted to present their own ideas.
