CDC Criticizes Workers in Measles Outbreak

By Alabama Public Radio

Atlanta, GA – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released a critical report of how some Alabama health workers handled a recent measles outbreak. It occurred in Lee County in 2002. The report says doctors apparently were confused when confronted with symptoms such as rashes, fevers and coughs. The C-D-C says the delay in diagnosis gave the disease time to infect eleven infants and two adults. The report also says there was a breakdown in infection control by the hospital where one of the infected babies was treated.
