Mobile County School Board Considers Bonuses

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – The Mobile County school board will consider a plan that would give highly-qualified teachers bonuses to work in lower-performing schools. A teacher who is transferred to one of the designated schools would be paid a four-thousand dollar signing bonus at the beginning of the school year. The teacher also could receive a four-thousand dollar bonus at the end of each year, based on a performance evaluation. The teachers must have at least one year's teaching experience and must make a three-year commitment to stay at the school. The Mobile County school board will review the plan at its February tenth meeting.
