Mobile County Commissioner Arrested

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile County, AL – Mobile County Commissioner Freeman Jockisch has been arrested and charged with illegal use of campaign funds.
Jockisch surrendered yesterday and was later released on his own recognizance. A grand jury indictment says the Commissioner intentionally used campaign contributions for personal use. The amount of campaign funds was not disclosed. If convicted, Jockisch faces up to 20 years in state prison and fines of up to 10-thousand dollars. A felony conviction would also remove him from office. His attorney William Kimbrough calls the indictment vague.
Jockisch already faces federal mail fraud and tax charges in a separate case. Back in December, he pleaded innocent to charges of hiding income earned from his fire sprinkler business.
