Gay Marriage Issue in Mobile

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – A gay couple from Mobile is hoping a judicial decision in California will favor gay marriage. Eric Oliver and James Parker recently traveled to San Francisco to get married. The city has been granting marriage licenses to gay couples. A California judge has said he won't make a decision on the legality of the ceremonies until Friday. But a Mobile lawyer says it won't matter, whatever the judge decides. Donald Briskman says Alabama does not legally recognize same-sex marriages. A recent statewide poll conducted by a Mobile television station suggests about seventy percent of Alabamians support the ban on same-sex unions.
