Blount County May Consider Alcohol Vote

By Alabama Public Radio

Oneonta, AL – Blount County voters may get the opportunity to vote on whether to legalize liquor and alcohol sales. A petition is moving through the county seeking signatures from registered voters. Supporters must get signatures from at least 25 percent of the voters from the last election to place the issue on a ballot. That's about four-thousand people. Blount County Commissioners R-C Smith and Tom Ryan say voters should decide the issue. Smith says the county is losing hundreds of thousands of dollars because alcohol and liquor sales are prohibited. He says allowing alcohol sales would put money into dwindling county coffers.
