Rick Bragg's Cason Award Acceptance Speech

Tuscaloosa, AL – Alabama native Rick Bragg, author and former reporter for The New York Times, was honored in Tuscaloosa March 18th with the 2004 Clarence Cason Award for Nonfiction Writing.

The award, given by the University of Alabama's Department of Journalism, recognizes excellence in nonfiction writing. It was named for Clarence Cason, founder of the University of Alabama's Journalism Department.

Bragg was honored along with the late Dr. Bailey Thomson, the journalist and University of Alabama professor who was founder and director of the Cason Award program.

Upon accepting the award, Bragg began with a story about Dr. Thomson.
