Montgomery, AL – Governor Bob Riley has signed a resolution renaming the Alabama Judicial Building as the Heflin-Torbert Judicial Building.
The resolution was passed by the Legislature as a way to honor two former chief justices of the Alabama Supreme Court -- Howell Heflin and C-C "Bo" Torbert. The state judicial building first opened in 1994 in downtown Montgomery and became well-known nationwide last year as supporters of Roy Moore engaged in demonstrations, prayer vigils and various forms of civil disobedience.
The resolution renaming the Heflin-Torbert Judical Building was sponsored by Representative Marcell Black. Black says Heflin inspired him to become a lawyer.
