Montgomery, AL – The "Bingo for Books" amendment may undergo a significant change. The request came Tuesday night. The original plan called for expanding electronic bingo games to all four greyhound tracks in the state. Cash prizes would be unlimited, and revenue from the games would be used to buy textbooks, technology and supplies for public schools. The amendment has passed the Senate and is pending in the House. But last night, House sponsor Yvonne Kennedy asked lawmakers to send the bill back to committee so she can amend it. She now wants to use half of the proceeds to help fill an expected 180 million dollar shortfall in the Medicaid budget. The House took no immediate action on Kennedy's request.
