Montgomery, AL – Alabama must pay about 549 thousand dollars to the plaintiff attorneys in the Ten Commandments case. The money will be given to lawyers with the three groups that sued former Chief Justice Roy Moore -- the Southern Poverty Law Center, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and the A-C-L-U of Alabama. The state has to pay the cost of Moore's defense because he was sued in his official position as chief justice. Before the trail began, Moore said either he or his supporters would pay any associated legal fees. Moore lost his job as Alabama's chief justice in November for refusing to follow an order to move the monument.
