Montgomery, AL – It was the end of the line for hundreds of bills Wednesday. It was the last day of the regular session for a bill to pass in at least one chamber. Any bill that had not won approval in either the House or Senate automatically died when lawmakers adjourned last night. Many components of Governor Bob Riley's 22-bill accountability package did not survive. It was the primary focus of his legislative efforts since the session began February second. But the proposals may get another chance. An official with the Alabama Policy Institute in Birmingham says legislators probably will be called back to Montgomery for a special session. The governor could decide to include parts of his package then.
