Lawmakers Have One Day to Reconcile Budget

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – State legislators have just one more day to reconcile different versions of the state General Fund budget and approve several tax proposals to balance it. The state Senate passed the one-point-three billion dollar budget late Thursday night. It then went back to the House because that chamber passed a slightly different version last month. However, House lawmakers have not accepted the Senate's version, so both chambers will have to try to work out the differences during next week's break. Legislators also will have to negotiate with Governor Bob Riley. Both chambers will return for their final meeting day Monday, May 17th.
