Shelby County Resdients Oppose Drug Clinic

By Alabama Public Radio

Saginaw, AL – Residents of the Shelby County community of Saginaw say a methadone drug treatment clinic is unwelcome in their area. They organized their opposition Monday night at a town meeting. The clinic's neighbors say they're worried about drug addicts roaming the area. Methadone is a drug administered orally to reduce a person's desire for other drugs such as painkillers and heroin. It must be used with the direction of health professionals. The clinic's caregiver says the facility will operate under tight state regulations. It's scheduled to open in July.
