State Car Dealers See Increase in Hybrid Demand

By Alabama Public Radio

Decatur, AL – State car dealers say with gas prices nearing two dollars a gallon...they're having a tough time meeting the demand for hybrid cars. Micah Daniels is the general manager at Honda of Decatur. He says he's selling hybrids faster than he can get them. The most popular model in Decatur is the Hybrid Civic. That costs about 38-hundred dollars more than a regular Civic, but Daniels says consumers are paying up not only because of the better gas mileage...but also because he says they seem to have interest in protecting the environment. Hybrid sales still lag behind those for traditional vehicles...but national sales have more than doubled in the past year. Honda and Toyota are both developing new hybrid models because of the demand.
