Birmingham, AL – Attorneys for serial bombing suspect Eric Rudolph are asking for a delay in his trial. They filed a brief in Birmingham federal court Wednesday, saying they can't be ready for trial by August second because of the vast amount of paperwork associated with the case. The brief says it would take attorneys four years to review all the paperwork if they spent one minute looking at each page...but they're only requesting that the trial be delayed until next June. Defense attorneys also say they still need to interview many potential witnesses and do independent investigations of forensic evidence. Rudolph was captured a year ago in North Carolina after a five-and-a-half-year manhunt. He's accused of setting off a bomb that killed a police officer and critically injured a nurse outside a Birmingham abortion clinic in 1998. Rudolph's also accused of planting bombs in Atlanta in 1996 and 1997. The bomb that went off in Olympic Park in 1996 killed one woman.
