Mobile, AL – The city of Mobile will have to pay an additional 169 thousand dollars to a white fire captain who already won a 250 thousand dollar discrimination lawsuit earlier this year. Jurors concluded in February that the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department discriminated against Captain Alan Silvester. The department apparently promoted a black fire truck driver with considerably less experience over the 30-year veteran. The jury also found that department supervisors unfairly retaliated against Silvester after he complained. Federal Judge Ginny Granade ruled that Silvester's lawyers are entitled to more than 75-thousand dollars in fees and costs...Silvester will get almost 94 thousand to make up for what he would have earned if he'd been promoted.
