Montgomery, AL – Some Alabama teachers and employees, particularly those who are overweight or smoke, may have to start forking out more money for their health insurance. That proposal comes from a panel appointed by Governor Bob Riley to study rising health care costs in state government. The plan would require state employees to pay 12-point-five percent of the health insurance cost for single coverage and 26 percent for family. It would also require retirees to have worked 25 years and be at least 60 or 65 years old to be eligible for full coverage. The group will meet again in about three weeks to make a final proposal to the governor.
