Students and Faculty Receive Computers

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – A class of sixth-graders and faculty at Cahaba Heights Community School will be the first in the state to each be assigned laptop computers. Wednesday, the Vestavia Hills Board of Education approved the computer assignments in a pilot program aimed at improving learning. The School Superintendent says while education experts say it's becoming a trend to eliminate textbooks in other parts of the country, there are no plans to get rid of them at the Vestavia Hills school. The school system will pay about 127-thousand dollars out of their technology budget over the next three years to lease the computers.
