Montgomery, AL – Alabama and Georgia are having a difficult time reaching a final agreement on a water sharing pact. The two states reached a tentative agreement last year on sharing water from the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa River Basin. But as a July 31st deadline looms, a major obstacle remains. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue says the biggest problem is the continuing litigation over how the states will share their common water sources. Both states have reactivated lawsuits concerning water from the Chattahoochee River, and that has proven to be a sticking point for the other negotiations.
