By Alabama Public Radio

Boston, MA – Sixty-two delegates and nine alternates are in Boston representing Alabama's Democratic Party. The Democratic Convention began Monday. The delegation's members were either elected in the June primary or were chosen by the party executive committee. There are 31 men and 31 women. About half of the group belongs to the Alabama Education Association, and roughly 50 percent of them are elected officials. A majority of the delegation is black. Alabama also has two representatives on each of the national convention's major committees.
