Montgomery Police Chief Retires

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Montgomery Police Chief John Wilson announced his retirement Monday. It will take effect November 1st, but he's already left his office on a leave of absence. Wilson released a statement today saying his retirement will give him more time to focus on personal issues. He says he'll also spend the time defending himself against drunk driving accusations. Wilson was stopped on Interstate 85 earlier this month after former Montgomery police officer Rhett Hooper told local authorities Wilson had been driving erratically. The Shorter Police Department did not cite Wilson, but Hooper later filed reckless endangerment charges against Wilson.
