Montgomery, AL – Montgomery residents now have at least two days of relief from high sales taxes. The City Council approved a resolution Tuesday night to roll back the city's three-and-a-half cent portion of the sales tax on October second and again on July second. The Montgomery County Commission had already approved a similar measure to roll back the county's share of two-and-a-half-cents for one day. That means on October second the sales tax will be reduced by a total of six cents. Councilors also agreed to ask the state Legislature to eliminate the four cents collected by the state, relieving shoppers of the entire 10-cent sales tax. Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright says the loss of revenue would cost the city about 250-thousand dollars each day. But he says Montgomery can afford it.
