Fire Damages Landfill

By Alabama Public Radio

Baldwin County, AL – A fire at a Baldwin County landfill destroyed a 200-thousand dollar trash compactor and several square feet of demolition materials. County solid waste director Jim Ransom sats his staff finished covering the area with dirt early Monday after volunteer firefighters fought the blaze at the Magnolia Landfill for several hours. Ransom says he believes a burn barrel used to burn leaves or ashes may have started the fire. The blaze did ruin a track loader. That's a large piece of equipment that's used to crush waste and place it on the slope.
