Weather Watchers Still Eye Ivan

By Alabama Public Radio

Miami, FL – Hurricane Ivan continues to plow through the southern Caribbean. And, its projected path would take it into the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center's five-day forecast shows Ivan ending up in the Caribbean not far from Florida's west coast. But forecasters say the margin of error is large for a five-day forecast. Even for a two-day forecast, the margin of error is 184 miles in either direction. Ivan is about 740 miles east-southeast of Jamaica. Its sustained winds are about 140 miles an hour. The storm is expected to start veering northwest over the next few days.
