Birmingham, AL – There may be as many as one million power customers without electricity Wednesday night. Alabama Power spokesperson Bobbie Knight says more than 725 thousand customers were without electricity after Hurricane Ivan blew into Alabama. Darryl Gates, a spokesperson for the Alabama Rural Electric Cooperative, says Ivan may have knocked out power to 250-thousand co-op customers. But, he says the number could even be as high as 400-thousand. Power providers aren't making any promises. Some recordings say customers can expect to have their power back on sometime within the next two weeks.
