Judge, Sheriff Investigating Municipal Run-Off Election

By Alabama Public Radio

Midland, AL – A Dale County circuit court judge has ordered that the sheriff's department confiscate all ballots and documents that are related to the city of Midland's September 14th municipal election. The election was decided by seven votes. And the mayoral challenger is now claiming that tainted votes tilted the race in the incumbent's favor. The complaint charges that the incumbent, Don Parker, bought votes and mishandled absentee ballots, and it also claims that ineligible people were allowed to cast a vote. Virgil Skipper filed a complaint with the county to contest the election. Skipper and his attorney, Charles Reese of Daleville, filed the motion for immediate seizure, and the court issued the order Tuesday.
