Democratic Party Drops Candidate From Ballot

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Democratic Party has succeeded in getting one of its nominees taken off the ballot for November second. The Party decided last week to take off Jefferson County district judge nominee Joan Bernadette Singleton because she had donated money to the Republican incumbent for the judgeship before she became a candidate. Secretary of State Nancy Worley had refused to change the ballot because she said it could delay sending absentee ballots to military personnel overseas. But Montgomery County Circuit Judge William Shashy has ordered Worley to do what the Democratic Party wants. Shashy ruled after Jefferson County's probate judge testified that the county hadn't printed its absentee ballots yet.
