Riley Still Deciding on Appointments to State Environment Commission

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Governor Riley has still not decided on two appointments to the state Environmental Management Commission. The terms expire Thursday for two of the commission's seven members. Riley spokesman John Matson says the Governor is still trying to decide whether to replace or reappoint William Sanders and Sam Wainwright. They've both served six-year terms. Sanders is a doctor who works for a firm that provides medical services to the state prison system. Wainwright is retired. Meanwhile...the Alabama River Alliance Director Adam Snyder is urging Riley to make appointments that are not tied to special interest groups. The Alliance is part of a consortium of environmental groups that wants to make the state Department of Environmental Management more environment-protective.
