U.S. Supreme Court Won't Consider Indian Gambling

By Alabama Public Radio

Washington, DC – The U-S Supreme Court Monday declined to hear a dispute concerning Indian gambling. Justices would not consider whether states can allow tribes to operate casinos while preventing others from doing the same. More than 20 states, including Alabama, allow Indian tribes to operate gambling businesses. Private companies, though, cannot. Several California organizations filed the appeal in the spring. The Bush administration had asked the court to reject it. The Poarch Creek Indians of Alabama operate gambling halls on tribal lands in Atmore, Wetumpka and Montgomery.
