Tuscaloosa, AL – Charges of healthcare fraud and conspiracy against former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman have been dismissed. This after the presiding judge was uncompelled by the prosecution's evidence.
It has long been suspected that US District Judge UW Clemon was skeptical of evidence intended to prove the guilt of former Governor Don Siegelman.
Today he dismissed a charge of conspiracy after ruling the evidence was not credible enough to be heard by jurors. It was a fatal blow to the prosecution, who then dropped the remaining charges. Defense attorney Joe Espy says prosecutors were correct to do that.
The case was dismissed with prejudice. But that doesn't mean Siegelman's legal problems are over. He still faces a grand jury probe in Montgomery that will look into other allegations related to his administration that was in office between 1999 and 2003
