AEA Threatens MobileCo Schools With Lawsuit

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – Representatives of the state's largest teachrs union say they may file a lawsuit to get pay raises for 2,700 support personnel with the Mobile County Public School System. William Hanebuth is a Montgomery-based researcher with the Alabama Education Association. He says Mobile County schools pay less than most other systems in the state, and he says the system does not fairly award raises based on experience. Hanebuth also complains that system officials have refused to act on a grievance filed by 550 employees. Mobile Schools Superintendent Harold Dodge called Wednesday's comments "grandstanding."
