Habitat Celebrates Achievement with New House

By Alabama Public Radio

Helena, AL – Seventy-nine-year-old Pauline Sears of Helena is waiting for her new home. She was featured in a newspaper report a couple of months ago. It detailed how her family had been living in a home with doors held up by duct tape. Their floors were caving and a huge tarp covered holes in the roof. But volunteers with the Alabama Association of Habitat for Humanity say the Sears family could move into the new home by Christmas. And, it's a meaningful accomplishment for Habitat, as well. The Sears home will be the one-thousandth house built by the state association.
