Poarch Creek Indians Expanding, Bringing In Poker

By Alabama Public Radio

Wetumpka, AL – The Poarch Creek Indians are expanding their casinos to include table games such as poker for the first time. Bingo--in electronic and paper form--is the only game that's currently available at the Poarch Creek Indians' three gaming centers. But the tribe in November will begin offering Texas Hold 'Em, Omaha and stud poker at nine tables, with seven to 10 players at a time. Gambling opponents are already protesting the changes. Alabama Christian Coalition President John Giles says adding poker is illegal and a reason for regulators to intervene. He also says the actions will lead to full-fledged proliferation of casinos on every Indian reservation in the state.
