Superintendent Criticizes Red Cross

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – Mobile County schools Superintendent Harold Dodge is criticizing the Red Cross for the way it operated eight storm shelters in the county during Hurricane Ivan. He says the shelters were understaffed, and there was barely enough power to operate ventilators for special-needs patients. He also says the shelters were just too crowded, and security was deficient. Red Cross officials say there just weren't enough people or pieces of equipment because of simultaneous relief efforts occurring in Florida.
