Birmingham, AL – Jefferson County election officials say they're anticipating a record turnout on Election Day. That's why the county is training provisional ballot officers and bracing for a surge of walk-in voter registrants on November second. Probate Judge Alan King met Friday with election officials to update them on the election plans. King discussed steps that would be taken to ensure ballot security. County Registrar Nell Hunter says Friday's deadline to register to vote had already brought a rush of people into the county courthouse. King agrees, saying at least 25 more people are needed to oversee provisional ballots alone. The ballots are marked provisional for several reasons, including if the registered voter is not on polling place rolls or fails to bring identification. Absentee ballots can also be provisional for similar reasons.
