Scrushy Documents Show Conflict

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Two dozen files have been unsealed in the criminal case against former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy. Federal Judge Karon Bowdre ordered the documents to be released in a ruling last week. She also said other documents should remain sealed in the interest of justice and a fair trial. The unsealed documents included five that were filed in March and April in which the government tried to restrain Scrushy's attorneys from making public statements about the case. There were also several other behind-the-scenes exchanges concerning what the public should see and hear in the criminal case. Scrushy is set to be tried next year on charges of overstating HealthSouth earnings by at least $2.7 billion.
