Rudolph Defense Wants Evidence Out

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – A federal judge in Birmingham has been asked to throw out key evidence against accused serial bomber Eric Rudolph. The evidence includes traces of explosives that prosecutors say were found in his trailer. They say the traces link him to a 1998 abortion clinic bombing in Birmingham that killed one person. Rudolph is also accused of other bombings, including one that injured dozens of people during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Defense attorneys asked Federal Judge T. Michael Putnam during a hearing Tuesday to overturn warrants that agents used to search Rudolph's home and storage unit in North Carolina after the 1998 blast. The defense claims the searches were illegal.
