Montgomery, AL – Alabama voters did turn out in large numbers Tuesday. Many were even willing to stand in line in the rain in parts of the state. But officials say the number of voters did not set a new record. Secretary of State Nancy Worley says the election went amazingly well, with a large turnout that could top 60 percent of Alabama's 2.6 million active registered voters. The record turnout for Alabama was 76 percent in the 1992 presidential race. Worley says Tuesday's turnout could match the 66 percent that was drawn in the 2000 election.
