Riley Says Health Plan Helps Families

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Governor Riley says his health insurance plan for public employees isn't only about saving money. It would also offer a price break to public employees and retirees who make less than twice the federal poverty level. That means a family of four making less than about 38 thousand dollars a year would pay less for its state insurance plan than a family making more than that amount. Depending on a family's income, it could also get a discount of up to 50 percent off of the price of family coverage. State officials say one reason for the break is to encourage lower income workers to buy family insurance coverage.
