UWA Could Be Off Probation Next Month

By Alabama Public Radio

Livingston, AL – A report by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools says the University of West Alabama has made significant improvements. Officials say that means the school could be off academic probation by December. The regional accrediting body placed UWA on probation last December, saying the board of trustees had failed to effectively govern as a result of trustee infighting and micro-management. A three-person team visited the Livingston campus in September to review what had been done to resolve the so-called divisive and destructive governance issues. In the report released to the school earlier this month, the SACS team says West Alabama has made significant progress. The report also says the school has had an impressive transformation to comply with six accreditation standards that it had failed to comply with last year.
