Convicted Bomber Cherry Dies in Montgomery

Montgomery, AL – Convicted bomber Bobby Frank Cherry died Thursday in the Kilby prison in Montgomery. Cherry was covicted of killing four black girls in the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham. He was convicted on all four counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2002. Cherry was one of three form Ku Klux Klan members convicted in the bombing. Thomas Blanton was convicted in 2001 and is serving a life prison sentence. Robert Chambliss was convicted in 1977 and died in prison. Cherry died from cancer. He was 74 years old.
