Governor's Congress To Focus on School Leaders

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Governor Riley is launching an effort this week that will focus on improving the quality of educational leaders in Alabama's public schools. The Governor's Congress on School Leadership will meet Tuesday in Montgomery to begin examining school leadership issues. The Congress will make recommendations in six months to Governor Riley, the State Board of Education and the Legislature. Riley says he's hopeful the Congress will result in stronger school leaders statewide. About 200 educators and others are expected to take part in the effort. They'll focus on five issues throughout the meeting. Those include standards for preparing and developing principals; the selection, preparation and certification of school leaders; and attractive incentives and working conditions.
