U.S. Supreme Court Considers Alabama Case

By Alabama Public Radio

Washington, DC – The U-S Supreme Court heard arguments Tuesday in the case of an Alabama girls basketball coach. Roderick Jackson was fired from his coaching job at Ensley High School three years ago after complaining about unequal practice facilities for his girls team. Today, a government attorney argued that Title Nine, the law barring discrimination in any educational program that receives federal funds, also should protect people who complain about the discrimination. The Birmingham Board of Education opposes the lawsuit. A new principal recently rehired Jackson as the girls basketball coach.
