Montgomery, AL – State Health Officer Don Williamson says Alabama's flu season is off to a slow start. No cases have been confirmed in the state so far. Williamson said Thursday that the state has also received 35,000 more doses of flu vaccine. The vaccine is being distributed to county health departments. The local departments will be offering clinics until Christmas, so Williamson says people should contact their county health officials for information on when shots will be offered. The flu vaccine has been restricted to individuals considered most at risk. Those include people ages 65 and older, younger people with chronic medical conditions and health care workers who deal directly with patients. The state health department also expects to get 45,000 more doses of flu vaccine in January.
