King Says Gaming Center Unconstitutional

By Alabama Public Radio

White Hall, AL – Alabama Attorney General Troy King has taken the first legal step to try and shut down the state's newest electronic gambling business in White Hall. King went to court to challenge whether a constitutional amendment that approves electronic bingo games in the Lowndes County city is legal. King maintains that the 2002 amendment should have been voted on statewide, rather than only in Lowndes County. Alabama law says that any amendment that gets any negative votes in the Legislature must be voted on statewide, and the amendment did have one negative vote in the Senate. If a judge rules the amendment invalid, King says his next step will be to seek a court injunction against the White Hall Gaming Center.
