Soldiers Prepare to Serve in Iraq

Valley, AL – Some Alabama soldiers will be honored in a ceremony Wednesday in Chambers County. The National Guard troops are being deployed to Iraq. About 140 members of Company A, First Battalion of the 167th Infantry Regiment will provide security to U-S and coalition forces there. The soldiers will report to Fort Stewart, Georgia Thursday for more training before departing. Guard spokesperson Sergeant Martin Dyson says the First Battalion already spent a year on active duty from 2002 to 2003. Wednesday's departure ceremony will be held at three P-M at the Fort Clyde Osborne National Guard Armory in Valley.
