More People Now Eligible for Flu Vaccine

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – State Health Officer Don Williamson says some Alabama residents can stop worrying about this year's shortage of flu vaccine. Williamson announced Wednesday that more vaccine is available. So the state is expanding its list of high-risk individuals who are eligible to receive flu shots. He says now people who are 50 years old and older can receive the shots. Also newly eligible are out-of-home caregivers who have contact with high-risk individuals. Williamson says so far this winter there have been three confirmed cases of flu in Alabama. Two of those were in Huntsville, the other in Birmingham.
