Potential Private Backers for Domed Stadium

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – A Tennessee company says it will tell developers by the end of the week if it will invest in a proposed domed stadium and convention center in downtown Birmingham. Franklin Haney, Jr., is already heading up the development of a $350 million luxury hotel in the Magic City. His development company is planning to break ground on the hotel this summer next to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex arena. He says BJCC executives asked his company to look for private financial backers for the dome project. The request came after Governor Riley said the state could not afford the $75 million also requested by the project backers.
