New Interchange Opens

By Alabama Public Radio

Irvington, AL – The new Interstate 10 interchange at Irvington is officially open. It takes traffic into Bayou La Batre, a major seafood-processing center, and will serve as another hurricane evacuation route. Governor Bob Riley joined state Transportation Director Joe McInnes, Congressman Jo Bonner and former Congressman Sonny Callahan at the ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday. The governor says the exit will be called the "Sonny Callahan Interchange." The project cost 16 million dollars. Related construction continues on a 10 million dollar project to connect U-S Highway 90 to Interstate Ten.
