Riley Staying Quiet About Re-Election Bid

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Governor Riley is keeping quiet about his political future, even though some legislators say they think the Governor is heading for a re-election campaign. House Speaker Seth Hammett says he thinks recent newspaper ads indicate that Riley will run for re-election in 2006. The Governor's 12-page "State of the State" insert appeared in papers Tuesday. The insert focused on the last two years of Riley's administration and did not mention anything about 2006. The Governor's spokesperson also says Riley has made no decision about his political future. He says the Governor will not announce his plans until after the Legislature's upcoming session ends in May.
